How to organise a baby shower

Miranda in Sex in the City had a baby shower. So did top model Kate Moss. And now it’s your turn to organise one. Don’t panic. The Baby Gift Box Company has put together this handy guide to the perfect pre-birth baby shower bash.

When should a baby shower take place?
A baby shower is traditionally held one afternoon during the final trimester of the pregnancy.

What, where and how?
It’s great fun to choose a theme for the baby shower and base everything around that. It could be a colour theme (baby blue, baby pink or something neutral if the sex of the baby is unknown); a baby shower theme based on glamour (lots of scented candles, flowers and treats); or a baby shower theme that is reminiscent of childhood such as a traditional children’s tea party or even the year in which the mother was born!

Baby shower invitations
Make sure you give your guests enough notice by sending out a baby shower invitation well in advance so that they save the date. As the popularity of baby showers increases, there are more and more charming baby shower invitations available to buy.

Baby shower gift ideas
As the mother-to-be is literally showered with baby gifts, it’s a good idea for a friend to have a pen and paper handy to record all the baby shower gifts she receives. It will make sending thank you cards later on much easier.

A nice touch is to give a small going home present to everyone who has attended the baby shower. To thank your guests for their generosity, why not give them a small gift such as a scented candle, a box of chocolates or a miniature bottle of Champagne? It will remind them of the fun time they had at the baby shower.

Baby shower games
As well as eating, drinking and having a good gossip, it’s fun to play some party games as well. You could ask your guests to bring a photo of them as a baby, mix them up and guess who’s who?

Yummy mummy food
Keep it sweet and simple; delicious dishes such as fruit platters, pavlova, fondant fancies, marmite sandwiches and jelly babies all make perfect baby shower food. Of course if you don’t have time, it’s perfectly acceptable to ask your guests to bring a dish with them to the baby shower.

The finishing touch…
Why not take some photos of the party and out them in a memory book for the mother as a memento of her pregnancy and the fantastic baby shower you organised for her?

But above all…
Remember to relax, keep it casual, sit back and simply have a good time at the baby shower!
